Welcome!
- Planetarium: A brief (exclusive-to-this-tour) journey into our planetarium dome theatre to see some of the wonders of Jasper Dark Sky Preserve as we often showcase in our 40-seat star theatre as well as a special First Nations constellation story featured in our regular planetarium experience (most planetarium visuals have been re-formatted from our “fisheye” dome projection format to fill the screen of your phone, tablet, PC, TV or other device) while our staff narrate inside the dome
- Experiment corner: How the Northern Lights work
- Meteorite encounter: We typically see a meteor (or “shooting star”) a few times on each clear night on our in-person tours – Here, we’ll take a close-up look at the rocks from space from our collection, including our Moon rock and our rock from Mars!
TELESCOPES (approx 25 minutes)
- face-to-face LIVE with one of our staff in Jasper outside by the telescope
- if skies are cloudy, we’ll show you a live view of an ‘instant-replay’ of screencaps from live views of the most amazing things we’ve seen on recent evenings
- if skies are partly or completely clear, we’ll show you live realtime video views of objects in our Solar System and/or deep space
- Q & A with our staff in Jasper

WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN THIS TOUR?
Zoom (via https://jasperplanetarium.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4196/2021/01/jasper_planetarium_virtual_visit_guided_LIVE.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat& a high-speed Internet connection and a device capable of running Zoom.
HOW DO I JOIN THIS TOUR?
After payment is made, you will receive a Zoom meeting ID and password to use to join the tour on the date and time you have booked for. Your confirmation will also include information on what to do if you have technical issues.
DO I NEED A WEBCAM AND DO I NEED TO HAVE IT ON FOR THIS TOUR?
No. While you can specifically request with our staff to turn on your video and even interact face-to-face *** we do not require you to attend this tour with video on*** As a result, no web cam is required for this tour.
SO IS THIS ACTUALLY LIVE?
Yes! ***Our staff will be present and able to interact with you on-and/or-off-camera for 100% of each tour***
During certain tours, portions of the visuals for the introductory portion of our tour may be pre-recorded – though staff will always be present via text chat.
The telescope portion of our tour will ALWAYS consist of 100% live visuals and audio of our staff and telescopes, which participants will be able to interact with LIVE in realtime.
In-fact, in some cases, you may even be joining a tour that has a mix of virtual and in-person participants. (I.e. some people joining via Zoom and some on-site in Jasper.)
IS THERE A MAXIMUM CAPACITY FOR THIS TOUR?
Yes. Even though this is a virtual visit, in order to maintain a high level of quality and ensure a reasonable chance for everyone who wants to interact directly with our staff to do so, we will limit the number of parties who can purchase admission for each of these tours. This includes limitations on tours where there is a mix of in-person and virtual participants.
WHAT IF TECHNICAL ISSUES PREVENT ME FROM JOINING THE TOUR?
If for any reason you are unable to attend this tour due to technical issues on your end, you will be given a free rain-check to attend a future tour at-no-additional-charge. If you are unable to attend this tour due to technical issues on OUR end, you will be given the option of either a full refund or the opportunity to attend a future tour at-no-additional-charge.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A MASK DURING THIS TOUR?
No. This is a virtual tour that you will attend remotely via Zoom. Our live staff on the tour will not have masks on as they will be well over 2 metres from anyone else, in a fenced area during the tour (during in-person or combination-virtual-in-person tours with online and in-person participants, all our staff and in-person participants are required to wear masks until provincial health regulations no longer require them.)
WHAT IF IT’S CLOUDY?
This virtual visit is a learning opportunity with many non-weather-dependent aspects AND weather permitting views of the sky.
While we do not need the sky to be completely clear to use our telescopes we CAN NOT guarantee clear skies.
We DO NOT provide refunds if the skies are too cloudy BUT will allow you to use the price of this tour towards purchase of an in-person version of our Telescope or any other tour we offer anytime within 2 years of your original purchase. (To do this, just call to book by phone for a date no later than 2 years after your virtual visit and mention it was cloudy for your virtual visit, note the date, and tell us that you’d like to apply the the price of this tour towards purchase of an in-person version of our Telescope or any other tours we offer.)
